Kick Overlay Builder
Build a transparent engagement overlay for OBS — live viewers, chatters, messages-per-minute and a top-chatters leaderboard. Configure it, copy the browser-source URL, drop it in.
Add this as a Browser source in OBS. The URL and builder work now; the overlay starts showing live numbers once our overlay service is connected.

What works now vs later: the builder, the live preview of your layout, and the copyable browser-source URL all run in your browser right now. When rendered in OBS the overlay shows your channel’s public numbers and refreshes them live — that live feed switches on when our overlay service is connected. No password, no signup. An engagement overlay turns your stream’s live numbers into on-screen motion — viewers, chatters and messages-per-minute ticking in real time — which makes a channel feel alive and gives your community a shared scoreboard to rally around. This builder lets you assemble one and drop it straight into OBS.
Why put engagement stats on screen?
Because visible momentum is contagious. A viewer count climbing, a messages-per-minute meter spiking during a big moment, a top-chatters leaderboard people want to appear on — these turn passive watching into participation. New viewers read an active overlay as social proof that something worth watching is happening, and regulars compete to top the leaderboard. It’s the same reason sports broadcasts show live stats: the numbers are part of the show.
How do you add the overlay to OBS?
Configure it above, copy the browser-source URL, then in OBS add a Browser source and paste the URL in. Because the overlay renders on a transparent background, it floats over your gameplay or camera with nothing behind it. Position and size it like any other source. If you’re new to layering sources, our roundup of free Kick overlays and how to install them walks through the OBS side in detail.
Full HUD or compact — which should you use?
Match it to your scene. The full HUD is a data-rich readout — great for a starting-soon screen, a chatting stream, or any moment where the numbers are the content. The compact layout shows a single clean stat that won’t crowd fast-paced gameplay. Many streamers run the full HUD on their intermission scenes and the compact version in-game.
Should the overlay match my branding?
Yes — a mismatched overlay looks bolted-on. Set the accent colour to your channel’s palette so the highlights read as part of your look, not a stray widget. Consistency across your overlay, panels and offline screen is what makes a channel feel professional; our guide on Kick channel branding covers building that cohesive kit.
Do overlays actually help you grow?
Indirectly, and honestly. An overlay won’t bring viewers on its own — content and discovery do that. What it does is raise the quality of the experience once people arrive: it makes streams feel lively, encourages chat participation, and gives your community rituals (leaderboards, milestone reactions) that keep them coming back. It’s a retention and polish tool, not a traffic source — pair it with the things that actually get you seen.

An engagement HUD shines when the counts are moving. Real live viewers get your stream discovered so there’s momentum for the overlay to display — and a community to fill the leaderboard.
